Cool or Warm Season?
Kentucky Bluegrass is a cool season grass, which means it grows best when it is cool
Kentucky Bluegrass develops a shallow root system and is not a high drought tolerant grass, but it has the ability to go dormant in severe situations and can recover if watered intermittently keeping the lawn minimally growing during drought. This plant can grow up to 3 feet tall.
Where can it grow?
Kentucky Bluegrass grows in meadows, field, roadsides, open woods, and stream sides. It can grow in dry or moist soil. It is very competitive and will often over crowd other plants.
Watering
Kentucky Bluegrass can survive extended drought periods by gradually slowing growth, turning straw colored and entering summer dormancy. Once water becomes available again, it can initiate new growth from the crown of each plant.
